THE REAL BUSES The Leyland National single deck bus was developed as a joint venture between British Leyland and the National Bus Company during the late 1960's. The First production examples entered service in the early 1970's, and soon became the standard single deck bus for almost all the National Bus Company fleets. The modular design of the National allowed for easy modification of the vehicle spec, allowing various lengths and door options to be produced. The original Leyland National design was updated during the early 1980's resulting in the National mark II. The earliest production vehicles had a large roof mounted air conditioning pod which was soon replaced by a more compact version. THE EFE MODELS The Long mark I is based on an 11.3 metre vehicle and was originally available as a dual door version with first issue appearing in 1992. The first single door version followed two years later in 1994. The long mark I versions have been by far the most popular issues of all the various National models. NOTE : Model issue 17401DR is a Long Mark II version which should have been correctly issued in the reserved 177xx series. 15107DR has a short roof pod and should therefore have been issued in the 150xx series along with 16605DR which ended up in the series for short versions!
