THE REAL COACH The Y type was first introduced in the late 1960's and the unusual forward slanting side windows became a familiar sight on the roads of Britain. During the 1970's the AY type was introduced which featured a revised front grille. Alexander bodywork had always been a popular choice of the Scottish Bus Co fleets, and the Y and AY types were to follow this trend. In later life many of these vehicles were downgraded for use on bus services.

THE EFE MODEL Both the Y (225) and AY (227) type models were introduced into the EFE range in 1996. The early releases didn't reflect the strong Scottish connection associated with these vehicles however since 2001 this has been addressed and Scottish liveries have now become more dominant. EFE announced plans for two further versions of the Alexander Y in 2009. The first was a model with shorter side windows, this layout was more common on bus versions of the vehicle. The second was a modification of the existing 225 series tooling to allow the production of a Bristol RE version of the coach, however this also ment that no more of the original 225 series models could be produced. The oppurtunity was also taken to modify existing 227 model to allow the model to be produced with bus style folding doors. The first release of this variant came in the Spring of 2012 followed by the new bus and Bristol RE versions in the Summer.
