John Howe produces a large range of card kits, these include an extensive range of London Transport & provincial bus garages which make the ideal back drop for any model bus collection.

SW Stockwell Garage
The original building has nine bays and is nearly 400 feet long. The model has just two making it approximately 16" wide, although a CD ROM is included which enables extra parts to be printed. The Stockwell model is by its nature more difficult to construct than most of the other kits in the range and it is recommended that the builder gains experience on some of the easier ones first!

WW Wathamstow Garage
This large kit builds the front of the main garage shed and the former tower wagon shed, along with the office building.
he model requires an area approximately 27 x 18 inches. This will provide an area that can be used as a bus parking yard, and also a small part of the road that passed outside.

CM Chelsham Garage
This model can be built as either Chelsham or Godstone, the difference being the extension on the side of the building. The model has posable doors and includes alternative labels to represent the LCBS period.

DT Dartford Garage
This former Maidstone & District garage was taken over by LGOC in 1933 and closed in 1986. The doors can be repositioned as desired.

EG East Grinstead Garage
Just like the prototype the right hand entrance is for single-deck vehicles only. A sign on the door reads 'Covered top buses must not enter here'. The doors can be posed open or closed.

GD Godstone Garage

GY Grays Garage
The kit portrays the north end of the garage with the offices on the other side of the running out road.

HE High Wycombe Garage
Originally built by Amersham & District in 1929 this garage passed to London Transport & then LCBS before closing 1977.

HG Hertford Garage
Hertford Garage opened in 1935 and replaced two premises in Ware. It closed in 1989. The doors can be posed open or closed as desired.
The model is approximately 28 inches wide (allowing for yard between the two buildings).

HN High Wycombe Garage
Used by LPTB since 1933 the garage at Hitchin was originally only able to accomodate single deck vehicles. It was rebuilt in 1954 in order to allow double deckers to enter, but was closed in 1959. The kit can be built to represent either version.

MA Amersham Garage
This garage opened in 1935 next to the former garage which it eventually replaced. It passed to LCBS and closed in 1989. It has now been demolished.
The model comes with two styles of bus shelter.
Allowing for the width of the yard the model requires about 27 inches of shelf space.

RG Reigate Garage
Reigate opened in 1934 and replaced the original East Surrey premises. It was the headquarters of LT's Country Area & later LCBS.

SA St Albans Garage
The kit provides parts for the building, shelter and island. Signage is included for both LT and LCBS versions.
The model is approximately 20" X 13" and the builder will need to provide a piece of hardboard of at least this size to use as a sloping base, which will need to be painted to represent the road surface and grassed areas.

SJ Swanley Garage
This former East Surrey Traction Co garage passed to LGOC in 1993 and LCBS in 1970. Doors that can be posed open or closed as desired.

ST Staines Garage
Staines was a prime example of the classic London Transport country garage. The layout with the running in road to one side of the shed enables a comprehensive model to be built.

WR Windsor Bus Station
Windsor garage was opened in 1933. It was substantially enlarged by the LPTB. In front of the garage was a bus station used by bus and coach routes.

WY Addlestone Garage
Addlestone Garage opened in 1936. It had two round ended office blocks facing each other across the access road. One of these is included in the kit.

LONDON TRANSPORT OTHER BUILDINGS
BH Brixton Hill Tram Depot
After the trams the building was used by the motor trade but is now used by Arriva. Extra parts are included to model it as an Arriva bus garage.

COB Cobham (Redhill Road) Bus Museum
A model of the southern end of the now closed Redhill Road Museum building. It portrays the area used for exhibiting vehicles on open days, and includes the vehicle inspection ramp.

CTD Camberwell Tram Depot
Camberwell was really two depots linked by a single track. Each had its own entrance. It was built in the distinctive LCC brick style. Inside the depot traversers enabled the trams to be moved between tracks. The kit provides the two entrances and an office building. The entrances are approximately one tram lengths depth. The remainder of the depot was hidden behind other buildings fronting the street.

PITS Bus Inspection Pits
Based on LT practice this kit provides four inspection pits, with surrounding walls and doors to the rear.

SBS Sevenoaks Bus Station
The bus station building at Sevenoaks was an unmistakable example of LT architecture. It provided waiting room accomodation for passengers, an office and canteen for staff, and toilets.
The building comes on a paved base measuring approximately 15 by 3.5 inches

TT Aldenham Tilt Test Shed
The tilt test shed at Aldenham works was used to check that all of London Transport's double deck buses could safely be tilted to 38o with their wheels still on the floor
This model has a working tilt table.

The art deco style building has a large office block, which has been reduced in length for the model. The model can be constructed signed for Birmingham City Transport or in modern guise

East Kent

This is an example of a small local bus depot (a dormy shed) used to house two or three buses in a small village. The small office extension is an addition. The three doors can be posed in different positions, and there is some simple interior detail included.

This former City Coach Depot was taken over by Eastern National and also used as the Depot in the 1970s "On The Buses" TV comedy series. Kit contains alternative signs for City, Eastern National and the fictional "On The Buses" Luxton District.

The Eastern Scottish depot in Mall Avenue was built on the site of a former tram depot in 1961. It is now operated by First Edinburgh. This modelhs a detailed interior.

GYC Great Yarmouth Caister Road
A magnificent art deco garage and adjacent office originally owned by the Great Yarmouth Corporation. The building is still in use by First Eastern Counties. The decorative stone panels depicting bus, train and stagecoach are reproduced. In later years these have been painted blue, but bare stone versions are included to build an earlier version.

SHS Hand Cross Dormy Shed
(Southdown)

Southdown had many small bus depots - commonly known as dormy sheds, which would house one or two buses, to avoid long journeys of 'dead running' back to a larger garage. This model of Handcross will hold two vehicles and the doors may be folded and posed open or closed, and the interior has some simple detail. The kit is now supplied with altnerative red doors & front wall enabled it to be used for other bus operators or as a rural fire station.

A classic art deco styled Southdown depot. This kit will construct the building in either the traditional Southdown style, or with NBC period signage

SPR Sheriffhall Park & Ride terminal building
Edinburgh

This model is based on the Midlothian, Sheriffhall terminal building in Edinburgh, standing in a large car park at the terminus of a commuter bus route.
It could serve as a similar facility anywhere in the UK, or perhaps as a bus station.

With some care it would be possible to remove the printed window areas and add clear plastic sheet. To this end some interior detailing is supplied in the kit.

SUK Uckfield Depot & Bus Station
(Southdown)

This bus depot / station is modelled on the one at Uckfield, Sussex. The depot will accommodate six vehicles and has doors that may be positioned open or closed. The kit enables the roof of the depot to made removable to allow access.

Bus station facilities - cafe, conveniences , shelter are positioned alongside the building.

Although based on a Southdown prototype, alternative signage is included in the kit, so that it could be used for any bus company.

TM Matlock Bus Depot
(Trent)

This building still stands in Matlock, used as a car exhaust repair depot. Previously it was a North Western bus depot, later passing to Trent.

The depot always operated single-deckers. In fact the right hand side entrance was only high enough for these.
The doors can be posed open or closed.

UCH Huntingdon Depot
(United Counties)

This compact bus depot is modelled externally in full. There are two entrances at the front and a single one at the rear . An office and administration block runs along the side.

Signs are provided for the NBC period, and also for Stagecoach. There is provision for modelling the modern roller shutter housings and extra cladding fitted during this period.

The building is sufficiently anonymous in design to be suitable for any bus company - real or imagined - if new signs are added.

WNH Helston Depot
(Western National)

Two alternative WNOC signs are included to produce pre NBC versions.

For the NBC version there is a small extension building on the left side and other small changes. The model may be assembled leaving the roof sections removable although it is suggested that in this case, the walls are fixed to a base.

It is possible to re-label the depot building quite easily in order to represent other companies.

GARAGE Extensions
GGX Garage Extension
(Triple Gable/Yellow Brick)

Each of the four kits listed below builds a three walled 10" square area with a triple gabled roof (GGX) or single gabled roof (GGZ).

Entrances may be added in the walls. The roof may be turned through 90 degrees, and can be removable. Note that the rooflight glazing panels are NOT included in the kit but can be easily made using some plastic glazing material and some adhesive paper strip.

Inside the garage the walls are printed with white brick with a black brick base.
These kits can be used to extend many of the existing low relief Kingsway Bus Garage kits and can also be modified & combined to produce larger covered areas as required.

Remember that the walls should be fixed to the baseboard, but the roof sections can be removable.

HDX Harrow Weald Bus Garage Extension
The simple design of the HD Harrow Weald garage has made it possible to offer a two bay extension to the kit. This kit provides an extra 8" depth in the same style as the original kit.

Note that the interior walls of this (like the original kit) are plain card - interior wall paper if required, can be downloaded from the free download page.
The extension can be joined to the existing model using brick pillars (supplied) to cover the join. It would be possible to join a further unit or units in order to make a very large model.

BA Traditional Style Garage Front Wall PLUS GGZr Unit
(Red Brick Only)

This kit comprises one GGZ R (red brick) along with a traditional style bus depot front wall. The brick patterns match exactly. The front wall is loosely modelled on the former United depot in Bishop Auckland.

The front wall has two openings each of which has two sets of multi doors, which may be shown as open or closed.

One or more GGZ units could be used to extend the building by areas of 10" square, for example an extra GGZ unit could be added to the above kit to produce a building of total size 20" x 10".

Modern Style Garage Front Wall PLUS GGX Unit
(MOD - Yellow Brick or MOD R - Red Brick)

This kit comprises one GGX (yellow brick) OR GGX R (red brick) along with a modern style bus depot front wall.

The front wall has four openings which may be shown as open or closed. The square roof can be positioned with the roof trusses running either across or front to back.

Modern style safety signs are included.

One or more GGX units could be used to extend the building by areas of 10" square.
