15910 Leyland PD1 - Southdown	THE REAL BUSES The Leyland Titan PD1 was launched in 1945 and was fitted with a 7.4 litre engine, this was joined in 1947 by 9.8 litre version which was classified PD2 This successful chassis design was to remain in production for over 20 years, with a wide variety of operators building up sizable fleets. Various coach builders supplied bodywork, including Leyland itself. The buses were available with lowbridge or highbridge bodywork, the later version used the normal central gangway on the top deck. The Leyland Titan PD1 was also in 1946 chosen by London Transport as a stop gap until new AEC RTs could cover the operators urgent post war vehicle replacement needs. These buses had a special metal framed version of the Leyland highbridge bodywork. Outwardly however there was only minor variations over the standard version, such as larger destination boxes and a roof box. The 65 buses joined the STD Class and were allocated bonnet numbers 112-176. They had a relatively short life in the capital being replaced by the operators standardized RT type. After their London days were over all 65 were exported to Yugoslavia. THE EFE MODELS Both the non roof box models were first release in 1993. The highbridge releases have vastly out numbered the lowbridge versions with a steady flow of new releases since their launch. The main casting differences between the PD1 and PD2 can be found on the front off-side driver panel and valence above the bonnet. The models can also be fitted with two different designs of radiator. The London post war STD version first appeared in 1996, the only difference over the original highbridge PD1 being the addition of a roof box on the front. However only three official releases have so far been made. During 2007 a pre-war version of the STD was aded to the range in the 336 series. A Silver Star PD2 version with the roof box was produced in 2005 however this only used a new combination of the existing upper and lower deck components. Both the PD1 and PD2 Titans were also produced with a lowbridge version of the top deck. (See models 158 and 160)
