A brief overview of the latest issuies of the Model Bus Federation's Model Bus Journal for March & April 2023. This is the only publication solely dedicated to model bus news & other related articles in the UK.

  • Buses That Never Were! Part 9 by David Jessop - Five Leyland Panther Marshall Camair buses were ordered by Stratford Blue in 1968, they had registrations XNX131-5K & fleet numbers 31-5 reserved. However problems with the centre exit doors & an unresolved pay agreements with the union for driving standee buses meant they were blacked, and never operated with Stratford Blue. Dave Jessop has produced a model of the final vehicle in the batch that eventually entered service with Preston Corporation.
  • 44th Model Bus Extravaganza, Stafford 2023 - Details of this years show.
  • Leyland PD3 East Lance to Weymann by Martin Hare - An OOC East Lancs bodied Leyland PD2 is converted into a Weymann bodied example to reproduce a vehicle operated by Brighton Corporation.
  • Ken Johnson's Memorable Models Number 87 - Midland Red Guys. Ken provides a overview of the Midland Red vehicles & details how he reproduced them in model form using the Little Bus Co kits UNC1 (Guy Arab II / NCME), PRV2 (Guy Arab II / Park Royal) and Sunshine Models Kit 30 (1947/49 Northern Counties Highbridge D/D)
  • Obituary: Mick Broadhead 1955 - 2022 by John May - A tribute to long time member and Yorkshire area secretary, who sadly passed away in December.
  • A Feast of Fodens: Part 1a by Gordon Braithwaite - Since Gordon's first part back in 2015, that covered mid-engined Fodens produced from the mid-1930s until 1950, he has expanded his collection of models, so before moving on to later types in part 2, this supplement covers the additional earlier coach models.

  • Dinky 290 Upgrade Prototypes by Stephen Barber - Dinky crafted a 4 bay version of the original five bay 290 model and experimented with roof straps to strengthen the five bay version. Neither ideas got further than prototype models which are now in Stephen's safe keeping, and members of his Crusader Transport fleet.
  • Bournemouth Open Top Fleetline by Martin Hare - A missed EFE opportunity realised by Martin. He show how he converted the standard EFE London Transport DMO closed top model into its convertible Bournemouth open top form.

  • Obituary: Graham Orchard - Graham passed away in February & was the founder & owner of the Model Bus Company which produced good quality white metal kits. These kits passed to ABS and in turn were acquired by the MBF, they are now available in the Streetscene range.

Oxford release Photographs of Two Planned Duple Britannia Models
Oxford Diecast has added sets of photographs to it site showing sample versions of two upcoming Duple Britannia coach models due for release later this year.

Friday 28 April
Latest Corgi Catalogue for May-August 2023 Revealed
Corgi has announced details of the models planned for released between May & August.
Sadly there are no new OOC models to report, the only buses, are the previously announced Southdown Leyland PD3 Queen Mary (OM41914, and the Toy range New Bus for London in commemorative livery for the forthcoming Coronation (CC89205).

A digital version of latest catalogue can be viewed on the Corgi website, while a video showing most of the newly announced models can also be found on You Tube, the Southdown model isn't included in this preview.


Sunday 22 April
Oxford Diecast Model Lists Update
The Oxford Diecast all model lists for 1/76 scale & N scale models have been updated to included all the newly announced models listed in the Feb-Aug 2023 catalogue.

A new list covering the Oxford HO 1:87th scale Amercian car range has also been added and contains details of around 170 models released or announced to date. This contains similar information to the N & OO scale lists, although to date no bus or coach related items.

Finally I've also updated the Oxford model list this contains a basic list of over 5900 Oxford Diecast models past, present & future, there are links to the specific model pages on the Oxford Diecast site, along with Google image & eBay search links for each model. The lists can also be printed out to produce basic model check lists if so desired.

All the oxford lists can be accessed from the Oxford Zone hub page and using the Oxford Models button, the OO & N scale lists are also listed on the main "Other Model Lists" page.


Monday 17 April
Model Buses Creations Commissioned Northcord Models
The two ADL Enviro400 MMC models commissioned by Model Buses Creations have now arrived in the UK and pre-orders are now being dispatched to customers. A limited qunantity of both models were on sale at the London Bus Museum's Spring Gathering yesterday.

MBC latest Facebook post has revealed the subject of another planned commissioned model, this will depict the Stagecoach London ADL Enviro400 SN64 OGU (12345) which carries red & cream Selkent Ambassador livery. The vehicle also attended the London Bus Museum event.

Tuesday 11 April
Oxford Diecast Feb-Aug 2023 Issued
There are just two liveries for existing coach models included in the latest Oxford Diecast Catalogue which covers the period February to August 2023.

You can view the full catalogue as a PDF on the Oxford Diecast website, a list of the newly announced models can be found on the Oxford Diecast Facebook page.

OM40507 Feltham Tram - London Transport (Last Day of Service 7th April 1951) 2079 on route 16 to Croydon Purley

The model below is now listed as in stock on the Corgi Online Store, and should be released to model retailers shortly.


OM46411 Caetano Levante - East Yorkshire (Great British Days Out & Days Away Livery) YY63 OJA / No.84 on route X5 to Hull

When announced in January 2023 both models were initially advertised as exclusives only available direct from the Corgi Website.
